IDW Games revealed Locke & Key: Shadow of Doubt, a new card game based on Joe Hill and Gabe Rodriguez’s best-selling graphic novel, in July 2020.
In Locke & Key: Shadow of Doubt, players explore the mysteries of the Keyhouse. They go on adventures via using the magical keys in the house to unlock locations and activate special abilities. But beware, one of the players in the group may be concealing their identity as a demon. It is a light game meant for the fans of the comic book series and TV show alike.
This game is for three to six players, plays in 45 minutes, and will retail for $19.99.
IDW Games also announced Batman: The Animated Series Adventures: Shadow of the Bat, a miniatures board game, for release into trade in Fall of 2020.
Fantasy Flight Games revealed Under Dark Waves, the next expansion for Arkham Horror, for release in Q3.
Off the New England coast, evil creeps along the shoreline and under the water’s surface as villagers go missing on a regular basis. In this new large box expansion for Arkham Horror, players investigate the other plagued towns of Massachusetts. The expansion comes with 2 new double-sided tiles for Kingsport and Innsmouth as well as eight new investigators. There are also 150 encounter and event cards, new assets, monsters, conditions, and a terror mechanic.
Under Dark Waves will retail for $54.95.
Fantasy Flight Games also announced Return to the Forgotten Age upgrade expansion for Arkham Horror: The Card Game which will release into trade in Q2
Asmodee North America revealed Forgotten Waters, a new pirate campaign game by Plaid Hat Games, which will come out in the second half of 2020.
Forgotten Waters is a cooperative game where players take on the roles of pirates exploring the seas. Their goal is to rack up the best bounty possible, and defeat any monsters that cross their path. It is a campaign-style game where the pirates keep track of their own accomplishments in a character log, and the newest game in the Plaid Hat Storybook lineup. There is also a free web app that provides scenarios and crossroads moments to speed up game management.
The game box contains a rulebook, a location book, a pad of Ship Log sheets, a pad of Player Sheets, a map board, 6 player boards, 8 standees, 7 d12 dice, 204 mini-sized cards, and 143 tokens and markers. This is game is for three to seven players, ages 14 and up, plays in 120 to 240 minutes, and will retail for $59.99.
Asmodee NA also revealed that Catan Studios will release anniversary and 3D versions of Catan
Atlas Games will release Breakdancing Meeples, a new dance-off game, in July.
In Breakdancing Meeples, players join up with the hottest dance crew of meeples around to compete in one-minute dance offs for the world championship trophy. To do battle on the dance floor, players roll and re-roll meeples like dice, and the meeples team up to do a routine the way they land. The cards outline various dance routines, like Whirlyball, Streetsweeper, and Early Bird, to perform and score points. The game plays over the course of four one-minute rounds, and features a free app for game management.
The box contents includes 24 meeples, 24 scoring cubes, and 36 poker cards. This game is for two to four players, ages 8 and up, plays in 5 minutes, and will retail for $19.95.

Catan Studios will release two new versions of their flagship game Catan via Asmodee North America in conjunction with the game’s 25th anniversary this year. Details are still being finalized, but both products were on display at Toy Fair.
Catan 25th Anniversary Edition will feature upgraded components, including custom card sleeves, card sorting trays, marble-themed dice, and custom player pieces, as well as the 5- to 6-player extension and the Helpers Scenario. Its tentative release date is Q2, according to ANA Business Development Specialist Josh Dummer. A mock-box was on display.
The more elaborate new version is an as-yet-un-named 3D topographical special edition, for which a prototype was on display. “The idea is having a three-dimensional Catan board that really enriches the experience, makes it a lot more immersive when you’re looking at an actual mountain where you’re going to mine your ore from, or a pasture with a little sheep in there where you’re going to gather your sheep, and so on,” Dummer explained. The name of the product, release date, and price have not been finalized.
Fantasy Flight Games unveiled two new Star Wars: Legion Operative Expansions, Padme Amidala and Cad Bane, for trade in Q2 of 2020.
Senator Padme Amidala fights for freedom and democracy from the floor of the Galactic Senate as well as on the battlefields of the Clone Wars. This expansion comes with a unpainted Padme Amidala miniature, a unit card, 6 upgrade cards, and Padmé Amidala’s 3 signature upgrade cards to field in battle. This single figure set will retail for €14.95.
Cad Bane is an incredibly skilled professional bounty hunter who works for the Separatist Alliance. He enters battle, usually with his signature wide-brimmed hat, wielding one or more LL-30 blaster pistols. This pack includes a unit card, 6 upgrade cards, and Cad Bane’s 3 signature command cards. It will retail for €14.95 as well.
Cryptozoic Entertainment revealed Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Hjinx at Hell High, a new deck-building game, for release in 2020.
The Battle Wizards are headed back to school to channel some adolescent rage into this deck-builder. Hjinx at Hell High offers players all the fly-by-night spellcrafting and awkward experiences of high school as they play cards to move themselves up and down the social ladder from the class of Ultimate Loser to Class President.

This announcement came amid a series of shake ups at Fantasy Flight Games. Recently, Fantasy Flight Games shut down its interactive division, and laid off employees from their RPG division.
Clearly, 2020 is destined to be a year of change at Fantasy Flight Games.
Green Ronin Publishing will release Enemies & Allies: Non-Player Characters and Creatures for Modern AGE in March.
Enemies & Allies gives gamemasters a one stop shop for non-player characters and creatures. The sourcebook covers a multitude of genres; including modern fantasy, horror, near future science fiction, technothrillers, and crime dramas. It will include rules to help players create their own creatures and non-playable characters. Enemies & Allies will also include new game system for “Heat”, a mechanic for how much unwanted attention characters are attracting, as well as geomantic places of power and more.
The 128-page, full-color hardback will retail for $32.95.
