‘Mayans MC’ Season 3 Greenlit

FX, the Disney-owned cable network has renewed the Sons of Anarchy spinoff for a third season.

Ahead of Tuesday night’s season 2 finale, FX has given the go ahead for a third season of Mayans M.C.  FX also confirmed that co-creator and executive producer Elgin James will serve as showrunner for the series’ third season following the exit last month of series co-creator Kurt Sutter. Season 3 is expected to air on FX in the Fall of 2020

“We’re happy to continue telling the story of Mayans M.C. with our partners at Fox 21 and excited that Elgin James has earned the opportunity to become the series’ showrunner,” said Nick Grad, Fox’s president of original programming, in a statement. “Kurt Sutter identified and chose Elgin as his partner on the show from the outset and Elgin has been instrumental to the success of the series, leveraging his experience and creative vision to make Mayans M.C. with this incredible cast, crew and creative team.”

Kurt Sutter was dismissed from Mayans in October after FX received multiple complaints about his behavior. He sent a letter to the Mayans cast and crew following his dismissal in which he described himself as “an abrasive dick,” adding that “my arrogance and chronic distraction has created wreckage.”

Mayans MC’s current season is averaging 4.6 million viewers per episode across all platforms. The show ranks sixth among 172 cable scripted series in 2019 among adults 18-49 in Nielsen’s live-plus-7 ratings and in the top 10 in other key demographics.
