Zoë Kravitz to play Catwoman opposite Robert Pattinson’s Batman

Zoe Kravitz has been cast as Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman, in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The Big Little Lies star will play Selina Kyle and her alter ego alongside Robert Pattinson, who will take on the lead role. The film comes from Matt Reeves, whose credits include Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

The 30-year-old daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet reportedly went through a rigorous testing process that saw her compete alongside Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska and Eiza González. After Kravitz tested last week with Pattinson, she secured the part.

Kravitz has, curiously enough, actually played the character once before, in 2017’s The Lego Batman Movie.

Robert Pattinson will play the Dark Knight in the upcoming Warner Bros. film. Reeves and Mattson Tomlin wrote the screenplay, and the film is being produced by Reeves and Dylan Clark. Michael E. Uslan is executive producing. It is set to start filming in January in the U.K.

Reeves took over as director after Ben Affleck stepped away from both that position and as the film’s star, saying that he would be hanging up the cape for good. Reeves has since described the film as a “defining” and “very personal” story about the Dark Knight, rather than an origin story in the vein of Frank Miller’s beloved “Year One” series.

The cast is also set to include Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon while Jonah Hill is also in talks for an unspecified villain role. Kravitz’s credits include the Divergent series and Mad Max: Fury Road. She will next be seen in Hulu’s reimagined take on High Fidelity.

Anne Hathaway was the most recent actress to embody the thief in 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” Michelle Pfeiffer also portrayed Catwoman in 1992’s “Batman Returns.” The feline-suited adversary received her own feature film, with Halle Berry in the titular role, back in 2004.

“The Batman” will be released on June 25, 2021.
