New Trailer for Todd McFarlane: A Documentary

A documentary about the career of Spawn creator and Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane is coming to Syfy.

Todd McFarlane is many things: an iconic comic writer, artist, and toy designer. Earlier this week it was also announced he earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records as well after next week’s Spawn #301 officially becomes the longest-running creator owned comic book series.

Adding to the legend, SYFY is producing a documentary  to celebrate McFarlane’s contributions to popular culture with a detailed exploration of his career. Deadline was first to issue the news with SYFY debuting the first trailer for Todd McFarlane: A Documentary.

The documentary details McFarlane’s story from his childhood, beginning with his upbringing in Alberta, Canada. It was during this time that he saw John Byrne speaking about comics on the tv, and this inspired him to become a comic book creator. He went on to have a successful run on Marvel’s Amazing Spider-Man, where he launched an iconic new method for drawing Spiderman’s webbing and co-created new characters like Venom. McFarlane departed  from Marvel and co-founded Image Comics several years later, proving crucial to its foundation.

Director David Oster features interviews with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada, and DC Comics publisher Jim Lee.

McFarlane: A Documentary, will air on Syfy and streaming services “before year’s end.”
