Will Fantastic Beasts’ Eddie Redmayne Play Batman’s Riddler??????

The Riddler is currently one of the villains being named to star opposite Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Batman movie, written and directed by Matt Reeves. Although very little is known about the plot, what is clear is that it will take place during Batman’s early years. The Riddler’s modus operandi, is a fine line between games and crimes, riddles and gags and fits with today’s modern storytelling. The last time The Riddler was featured on the big screen was in 1995’s Batman Forever, played by Jim Carrey.

IMDb asked a bunch of actors what supervillain they would like to play. In the interview from TIFF, Eddie Redmayne revealed he wants to be The Riddler:

“I’d love to play the Riddler. Just putting that out there!”

Eddie Redmayne is mostly known for his role as Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts series and won an Academy Award for his performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. But, scheduling conflicts may prevent Eddie Redmayne from playing The Riddler in The Batman because of his commitment to Fantastic Beasts 3. Both are expected to film early next year.

Redmayne’s not the first actor to wish he was playing the Riddler who stands out in Batman’s rogue gallery; James McAvoy and Jim Parsons have also named The Riddler as the villain they’d like to star as well.

The Batman will hit cinema screens on June 25, 2021. Check back for the latest updates on Robert Pattinson and other news on the DCEU!

Eddie Redmayne will also be back, reprising his role as Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts 3, which will appear in cinemas on  November 21, 2021.
