Doraemon 40th Movie Title Called ‘Nobita’s New Dinosaur’

Doraemon’s  latest installment will be called “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s New Dinosaur.” It will be the 40th film in the franchise series and will be released in March 2020, revisiting the series’ starting point which as the title suggests – dinosaurs.

Doraemon is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Fujiko F. Fujio, under the pen name of the duo Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abiko. The manga has also been adapted into a successful anime series and media franchise. The story basically revolves around a blue robotic cat named Doraemon, who travels back in time from the 22nd century to aid a boy named Nobita Nobi.

The first full story in the Doraemon manga series was published in January 1970. Prior to that, a pre-advertisement for the manga was published in six different magazines in December 1969. A total of 1,345 stories were created in the original series, which are published by Shogakukan. It can be considered as  one of the best-selling manga in the world, having sold over 100 million copies as of 2015.

Adapted from the original manga that also spawned an animated TV show, the film series began with the first installment titled “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Dinosaur” in 1980.

Kazuaki Imai will direct this new film;  based on a plot written by Genki Kawamura. They will be reprising their roles for the 38th installment subtitled “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Treasure Island.” The latter movie made 5.37 billion yen ($50.44 million) at the Japanese box office, making it the most profintable movie within the series.

Kazuaki Imai went on record stating that this latest film will be not be the same as the original or the 2006 movie which carried the same name. He said:

“It will be a completely new dinosaur story that needs to be told now,”

Not too much plot detail was revealed except that Nobita will meet twin dinosaurs Kyu and Myu. They did reveal a new visual and a special trailer which showed Doraemon and Nobita looking at the baby dinosaurs as they hatch from the eggs.
