MAD MEN Writer Tapped As Disney+ HAWKEYE Showrunner

Mad Men writer Jonathan Igla has been tapped as Showrunner for Marvel’s Disney+ Hawkeye show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton is one of the most prominent characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to also have not yet been given the spotlight. He’s appeared in five MCU movies since 2011 and after rumors of a film or a Netflix series, Hawkeye will finally become the center of his own story in 2021 thanks to Disney+.

Marvel Studios has been busy developing multiple shows for Disney’s streaming service, with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier first to debut in 2020. Hawkeye is one of four shows set for a 2021 release, but information on this tv series had up to now been the most hard to come by.

Jeremy Renner is due to reprise the Hawkeye role, as the bow-and-arrow wielding member of the Avengers. The plot centers on Clint Barton, a non-superpowered hero, trying to train another hero with bow and arrow skills, Kate Bishop, how to be a hero with no super powers.

According to a new report from THR, Jonathan Igla has been hired to write and executive produce the Hawkeye series. Igla is famous for his work as a writer and executive story editor on AMC‘s acclaimed series Mad Men. He most recently served as the supervising producer on the Facebook Watch series Sorry for Your Loss, which stars fellow MCU cast member Elizabeth Olsen.

This bit of information comes after writer and producer Amy Berg revealed last month that she lost out on a chance to work on the series. “It was down between me and someone else,” she said. “And I’ve since learned that someone else is a friend of mine. Couldn’t be happier for them. And no I’m not saying more than that. I’m still under an NDA.”

With a Fall 2021 release planned, production on Hawkeye may not need to begin for another year or so. This could mean that there won’t be that many more announcements in the lead up to it. But, now that Igla has been hired, the next major step to Hawkeye would be to find the right actress to play Kate Bishop.

Now that Hawkeye‘s showrunner has been announced, all four of Marvel’s originally announced live-action Disney+ shows have filled this role. Malcolm Spellman is leading The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Jac Schaeffer is running WandaVision, and Michael Waldron is on Loki. Marvel has even already named Bisha K. Ali as the showrunner on the recently announced Ms. Marvel series, leaving just She-Hulk and Moon Knight without a showrunner for the time being. Regardless, Marvel is quickly assembling the staffs of their Disney+ shows and Hawkeye it the latest tv show to do so.
