‘Angel Has Fallen’ tops box office with $21.3 million debut

“Angel Has Fallen” reached number 1 without a sweat at the box office with a $21.3 million opening, according to studio estimates Sunday, as the second sequel became the latest mid-budget release to find modest success in the often quiet late summer.

The Lionsgate film beat expectations going into the weekend, providing similar results to the previous 2016 installment “London Has Fallen.” The film series stars Gerard Butler as a Secret Service agent protecting the U.S. president played by Morgan Freeman.

Check out the trailer below for Angel has Fallen, the third instalment of Gerard Butler’s action-packed action series!

After Olympus has Fallen and London has Fallen Gerard Butler, aka Agent Mike Banning, returns to service this summer in the movie Angel has Fallen, here are the first pictures!

This third instalment of the action film saga will this time be directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Snitch ) and will also bring back Morgan Freeman in the role of Allan Trumbull who is now President of the United States. The rest of the cast will consist of Nick Nolte (who will play Mike Banning’s father), Tim Blake Nelson (Colossal), Piper Perabo (Looper), Jada Pinkett Smith (Mooney Fish in the Gotham series), and also Lance Reddick (John Wick, Parabellum).

Synopsis:  Victim of a coup, Mike Banning, a secret service agent, is accused of being the mastermind of an assassination attempt on US President Allan Trumbull. Pursued by the FBI, he will have to fight to survive and find the identity of the one who threatens the life of the president …

The Fall of the President will be released on August 23 in cinemas.

Looking back at 2013’s “Olympus Has Fallen,” the franchise has been a quietly consistent performer, having made roughly $200 million worldwide every time. “Angel Has Fallen,” produced for about $40 million by Millennium Films, is predicted to make a similar preformance, with it debuting just under the $21.6 million “London Has Fallen” debut.
