The BBC and HBO have taken the oppurtunity at San Diego’s Comic-Con to unveil new images for the TV series adaptation of the fantasy novels saga His Dark Materials!
The TV series His Dark Materials will finally materialize this year on the BBC channel in England and on HBO in the US! Adapted from the cult work of Philip Pullman, the first season of the show will be the opportunity to focus on the first volume (out of three) of the saga of novels, as did the film adaptation released in 2007. A film that moreover,should have been followed by two other feature films which never finally saw the light of day following the commercial failure of the first installment in cinemas.
If the film The Golden Compass had a five-star cast (Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Ian McKellen, Eva Green), it will be the same situation for the series, with a cast consisting of Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney / X-23 in Logan) in the role of Lyra, the main heroine, James McAvoy (the young Charles Xavier from the X-Men movies) who will play Lord Asriel, Lin Manuel-Miranda (Jack in The Return of Mary Poppins) in the role of Lee Scoresby, Ruth Wilson ( Luther, The Affair ) in the role of Mrs. Coulter, as well as Clarke Peters (Inspector Oscar Clemons in the series Jessica Jones ) who will play The Master. Published between 1995 and 2000, the original trilogy His Dark Materials is one of those literary works aimed at youth but has also seduced an adult audience through its incredibly rich universe and multiple levels of reading.
The story of the saga unfolds in an imaginary world where each human being is accompanied by a spirit, a physical materialization of the soul in the form of an animal. Here we see young Lyra Belacqua, a twelve-year-old girl who has been educated in the middle of Scholars at the prestigious Jordan College in Oxford. When her best friend Roger disappears, the victim of child abductors who operate throughout the country, she does not hesitate to embark on her footsteps … She then goes on a journey to the far north, perilous and exhilarating, which bring her the revelation of her extraordinary powers and lead her to the border of another world.
The first season of His Dark Materials will air late in 2019 on the BBC and HBO.
